America’s Promise Alliance Hires Us to Support Its 100 Best Communities for Young People Competition

Washington – February 22, 2011 – America’s Promise Alliance, the nation’s largest partnership organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and youth by raising awareness, supporting communities, and engaging in nonpartisan advocacy, has hired Environics Communications to promote the Alliance’s 100 Best Communities for Young People presented by ING.
Founded in 1997 with General Colin Powell as founding chairman, and chaired today by Alma Powell, America’s Promise Alliance (the Alliance) is a cross-sector partnership of more than 400 corporations, nonprofits, faith-based organizations and advocacy groups that are passionate about improving lives and changing outcomes for children. The 100 Best Communities for Young People presented by ING is one of the Alliance’s signature initiatives, and a part of the Grad Nation campaign, a 10-year effort to mobilize America to end the dropout crisis. An annual competition now in its fifth cycle, 100 Best rewards and recognizes communities making extraordinary efforts to reduce dropout rates and provide outstanding services and support to their youth. Winning communities have demonstrated a significant and lasting commitment to their children for which they deserve to be recognized and commended.
The 100 Best Communities for Young People are chosen by a prestigious panel of leaders in education and youth issues, led by ING Foundation President Rhonda Mims and America’s Promise Alliance President and CEO Marguerite Kondracke. Each year, the winners vary dramatically in size, location, demographics, resources, and approaches to their unique challenges. Past winners have ranged from small towns, such as Mercer County, W.Va., and Meridian, Idaho, to some of the nation’s largest cities, including New York City, Boston and Houston, to counties and school districts. Environics Communications will work with America’s Promise Alliance on a PR and marketing campaign designed to increase awareness of the 100 Best program, encourage more communities to enter this year’s competition, and promote and publicize the winners.
